Foot Reflexology

Foot reflexology is a naturopathic technique based on the idea that there are reflex zones on the feet that correspond to different organs, glands, and parts of the body. By pressing or massaging these specific areas, it is believed that beneficial effects can be generated in the related organs or systems, helping physical and emotional balance.

Basic principles:

  • Each foot represents one half of the body (the right foot reflects the right side, the left foot the left side).
  • The nerve endings of the foot are connected to the rest of the body through the nervous system.
  • By stimulating them, it is intended to improve circulation, release tension and promote the body's natural ability to heal itself.

Solar Plexus

Benefits attributed to it

  • Reduction of stress and anxiety.
  • Improves blood circulation.
  • Pain relief (such as headache, back pain, etc.).
  • Stimulation of the immune system.
  • Hormonal balance and improved sleep.

Foot reflexology changes information.

  • Changes the stimulus.
  • Changes the body's response.
  • Balances and improves health problems.

It is very important for the restoration of the entire system of our body, although it is a complementary treatment, generally safe when applied by a trained professional, it has some contraindications and situations in which it should be avoided or caution should be exercised.

Here are the main ones:

Absolute contraindications (should not be performed):

  • Thrombosis or thrombophlebitis: Massage can mobilize clots and cause very serious complications such as an embolism.
  • Generalized infections (viruses, bacteria, fungi) or open wounds on feet or hands: It can worsen the condition or spread the infection.
  • Serious contagious diseases: Such as severe flu, fever or acute infectious diseases.
  • Pregnancy: There is a risk (must be prescribed by a doctor) of stimulating uterine contractions.
  • Active cancer (depending on the case):

There may be controversy about whether stimulation could affect cell spread, so it is recommended to consult with the treating physician.

Relative contraindications

Caution or prior medical consultation:

  • Advanced diabetes: Due to alterations in sensitivity or poor circulation in the feet.
  • Severe heart problems: Reflex stimulation can affect blood pressure or heart rate.
  • Very marked or painful varicose veins: Massage can aggravate the condition.
  • Epilepsy: Some people may be more sensitive to neurological stimulation.
  • Recent surgeries on feet or ankles: May interfere with recovery.
